How to measure correctly? — Rules for the measurement environment

A distorted measurement is worse than no measurement — because it gives false confidence. Here are the golden rules for reliable results:

Wired connection (Ethernet) > Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is convenient but unstable. Walls, microwave ovens, neighboring networks, and Bluetooth devices all interfere. If possible, connect with a cable to the router. This is the only way to approach the maximum speed promised by your provider.

  • Cat5e cable: max 1 Gbps
  • Cat6 / Cat6a cable: max 10 Gbps (over shorter distances)
